WEEK 3

November 14th, 2017

Phew, what a week. This week we have been celebrating our achievements and thinking about how far we have come in the last 10 weeks. We are very proud of all the children’s efforts and we are now looking at what we can do to help your child reach their full potential.

please use the link below to help you understand what your child needs to be able to do in maths to help them achieve a ‘Good Level of Development’ at the end of Reception.

Thank you
Reception Team

What maths should children know by the end of reception?

Week 2

November 7th, 2017

We have so far learned nearly all of the first set of letter sounds (phonemes)

Phew! That’s a lot of sounds!

See if you can tell a grown up at home all the sounds you recognise.

Some of us have also been reading tricky words. These are words we can not sound out we need to learn to read them.

This week we have been reading ‘The Gruffalo’

Can you hear the initial sound in the characters?
Mouse
Snake
Gruffalo

Can you use your sounds to write some words from the story?
Nut
Big
Back
Tusk

P.E

November 7th, 2017

Now we have settled into a routine, we will be starting to change into our P.E kits for P.E lessons. Yours child’s P.E kit should contain;
Blue or black shorts or jogging bottoms
White t-shirt
Pumps

It would be easier if children do not wear tights on PE days as it is very difficult for children to dress themselves afterwards.

RKN – Tuesday
RSG – Thursday
RJK – Thursday

Thank you
Reception Team

Welcome Back!

November 1st, 2017

We would like to say welcome back to all of our reception children! We hope you had a lovely half term break! We had such a fabulous ending to our Superhero topic, by having our very own Superhero party last term and we hope you enjoy this half term just as much! Our topic is, ‘Oh help, Oh no, where will we go?’ We will be reading the stories, ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘The Gruffalo’s Child and ‘Stick Man’. Keep a look out on our blog for the fun activities we will be doing!

RKN Superheroes

Blending and Segmenting

September 26th, 2017

Next week we will start our phonics lessons.

Please help your child by blending and segmenting.

Remember:
Blending is when you say a word with only sounds
C-a-t and your child blends the sounds and says ‘cat’

Segmenting is when you say the word and the child tells you which sounds make the word.
Cat and child says c-a-t.

Try playing i-spy.
Remember use the sound not the letter. I spy something beginning with gl… gl-a-ss

Phonics meeting

September 26th, 2017

We would just like to say thank you to all the parents and families that attended the Phonics meeting this morning. We hope you found it useful and that it gave you some more ideas to try at home with your child. If you do have any further questions then please ask your reception teacher and they will be happy to share or show you anything you may need.
For those of you who couldn’t attend we have all the handouts available for you in class so please ask and we will happily give them too you.
Thank you,
Reception teachers.
