Blending and Segmenting

September 26th, 2017

Next week we will start our phonics lessons.

Please help your child by blending and segmenting.

Blending is when you say a word with only sounds
C-a-t and your child blends the sounds and says ‘cat’

Segmenting is when you say the word and the child tells you which sounds make the word.
Cat and child says c-a-t.

Try playing i-spy.
Remember use the sound not the letter. I spy something beginning with gl… gl-a-ss

Settling In

September 20th, 2017

We have started off by concentrating on settling the children in to their classes, getting to know each other and learning the rules and routines that enable us all to work happily together. The staff have spent time with all the children individually and getting to know them as a group, as well as playing games which will help the children get to know each other.

We hope that your child has had a great first few weeks at school. We have been thrilled with them all! We have already begun to assess your children since they walked through the door. The children are not even aware we are doing it as we have such a strong play based curriculum. In your child’s first few weeks it is important that we settle them in and they feel safe and secure. In addition to this we will work with the children to find out what they are able to do. This then enables us to plan for exciting learning experiences which are relevant and challenging. This half term our topic is ‘Superheroes’ and we have already been talking about what kind of superhero we would be and what superheroes do.

Welcome to Reception

September 13th, 2017

We would like to give a warm welcome to all our new Reception children especially those who are joining Bowling Park Primary School.
We have been very impressed with how the children have settled into school and they are becoming familiar with the daily routine.

Please help your child by;
Allowing them to put their coat and shoes on independently
Dressing and undressing as this will help when we start to do PE
Using a knife and fork at meal times (not a spoon)

Please take time to look at the school menu and help your child decide what they would like for their lunch. This allows dinner times to run smoothly and ensure your child eats their preferred meal.

Next week we will be doing a very informal assessment through fun activities so we can become more aware of your child’s interests and needs.

Then we look forward to beginning our topic ‘How can I be a Superhero?’.

Listen to our story ‘The flying Bath’. Can you hear any rhyming words?

In our maths we will continue with doubling and halving and working on your child’s next steps.
If you notice your child doing something fantastic at home please remember to fill out a parent comment slip.

Thank you for your continued support – you are helping your child reach their potential.
